Andy Warhol Retrospective Exhibition at the Ludwig Museum in Cologne 1989 – Poster

Reproduction of the poster for the Andy Warhol 1990 exhibition at the Ludwig Museum. This retrospective was organized under the patronage of the International Council of MOMA (New York).

Andy Warhol was a cat lover, reportedly keeping as many as twenty-five in the Lexington Avenue apartment he shared with his mother. He published a book of lithographs of cats named Sam. Warhol's affectionate studies are full of whimsy, depicting cats in various poses of play and rest. It is not entirely clear whether we are looking at different cats or rather several images of the same cat. The coloring of the lithographs was done during "coloring parties" with Warhol's friends, a precursor to the collective approach that characterized much of Warhol's career.

Andy Warhol adorait les chats, il en aurait gardé jusqu'à vingt-cinq dans l'appartement de Lexington Avenue qu'il partageait avec sa mère. Il avait édité un livre comprenant des lithographies de chats nommés Sam. Les études affectueuses de Warhol sont pleines de fantaisie, représentant des chats dans diverses postures de jeu et de repos. Il n'est pas tout à fait clair si nous regardons des chats différents ou plutôt plusieurs images du même chat. La coloration des lithographies a été réalisée lors de « soirées de coloriage » avec les amis de Warhol, précurseur de l'approche collective qui a caractérisé une grande partie de la carrière de Warhol.
