The Carta Marina by the Swedish geographer and historian Olaus Magnus is one of the first accurate cartographic representations of the Scandinavian Peninsula. Written in Rome in 1539, by one of the most eminent Scandinavian Catholics in the higher ecclesiastical service, it contains details that are lacking in many other early maps of the region. Originally intended for his Historia de gentibus septentrionalibus (A Description of the Nordic Peoples), the map was published some fifteen years before the appearance of this majestic work.

La Carta Marina du géographe et historien suédois Olaus Magnus est l'une des premières représentations cartographiques précises de la péninsule scandinave. Rédigée à Rome en 1539, par l'un des catholiques scandinaves les plus éminents dans le service ecclésiastique supérieur, elle contient des détails qui manquent dans de nombreuses autres cartes anciennes de la région. Initialement destinée à son Historia de gentibus septentrionalibus (Une description des peuples nordiques), la carte a été publiée une quinzaine d'années avant la parution de cet ouvrage majestueux.
